Woodlouse, suborder Oniscidea.
Isopods are crustaceans characterized by flat bodies with seven segments bearing legs and five more without. Of over 10,300 species which belong to the Isopod order, around 3,700 belong to its largest suborder, Oniscidea, woodlice. Most Oniscidea species are terrestrial, distributed throughout a wide variety of habitats from sea level to high mountains. In Britain there are 44 native species, of which only nine are considered to be common.
